Man Accused of Hurling Phone at Bebe Rexha Allegedly Thought Act Would Be 'Humorous

A man has been charged for attacking popular music artist Bebe Rexha during a live performance, confessing that he believed "it would be amusing," as per authorities.

This shocking occurrence took place on a Sunday evening at New York's Pier 17, where Rexha was performing.

Rexha, who was hit on her head by the phone, fell to the ground immediately. She was rushed to the hospital where she had to have sutures placed above her left eye.

Early indications from the investigation by the New York City Police suggest that the man had "deliberately tossed" his mobile at the singer as the performance concluded.

The suspected attacker has been identified as Nicolas Malvagna, a 27-year-old resident of New Jersey.

Malvagna was accused on Monday with two instances of third-degree assault, one instance of second-degree harassment, one instance of second-degree aggravated harassment, and one instance of attempted third-degree assault.

As reported by the Manhattan District Attorney's office, Malvagna admitted to the act, telling a cop at the location, "I was attempting to hit her with the mobile at the show's close, thinking it would be humorous."

Malvagna's next court appearance is scheduled for July 1.

On Monday, Rexha posted pictures of her wounds on Instagram. The images depicted bruising near her left eye and a laceration on her eyebrow.

Despite her injuries, she captioned her post "I'm good", and struck a thumbs-up pose for the camera.

Notable fans such as Winnie Harlow, Nelly, Demi Lovato, Leona Lewis, and Lauren Jauregui sent messages of support to the artist in the comments section.

Lovato expressed regret about the incident, writing, "Love you girl. So sorry this happened to you."

DJ Hector Fonesca voiced his opinion, stating, "No artist should ever be targeted with a heavy item like this. The responsible person should be barred from all concerts."

Known by her birth name Bleta Rexha, she is celebrated for her vibrant pop tracks like I'm Good (Blue) with David Guetta, and Heart Wants What It Wants.

She has also penned successful songs for performers like Eminem, Rihanna, and Selena Gomez.

The 33-year-old is set to continue her tour with a performance at The Fillmore in Philadelphia on Tuesday, and she will take her tour to the UK in July.
