Sequel to 'Alien: Isolation' Announced on Game's 10th Anniversary

Right now is a great moment to be an Alien enthusiast. Recently, Alien: Romulus hit theaters; Noah Hawley's TV show Alien: Earth is in the works (with a trailer already released); and this week marks the tenth anniversary of one of the greatest video games ever created for a movie tie-in, Alien: Isolation. However, guys, that is not all of it! Today marks not just the tenth anniversary of the aforementioned Alien: Isolation, but also the formal announcement from the game's creative director Al Hope, following years of anticipation from fans. To put it briefly, Alien: Isolation 2 is coming!

Hope made the following statement on X, the old name of Twitter, earlier today after honoring the original game and its devoted player base: "On the tenth anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear." I'm happy to announce today that early work on a sequel to Alien: Isolation has begun, on behalf of the whole crew. When we're ready, we're excited to provide you with more information."

We have no idea what the Creative Assembly and SEGA teams have in store for us at this time, when the game will be released, or even which platforms the xenomorph-like sequel will be available on when it does. We do, however, know that the original game is among the scariest things we've ever experienced with a controller in our hands. Players assume the role of Amanda Ripley, Ellen's daughter, and tiptoe around the spaceship Sevastopol looking for clues and avoiding the classic acid-dribbler. The game has been critically acclaimed and recognized as a survival horror masterpiece in the years since its release. (Of course, we were right all along!) In fact, it's so fantastic that Fede Alvarez, the director of Alien: Romulus, is an Isolation devotee himself, which explains why his film contains suspiciously save-point-looking phones.

We're going to attempt to mentally prepare ourselves to eventually play through the first game again and finish it in nightmare mode until we hear more about this. Nobody can hear you scream in space. However, at work? So, this is an excellent opportunity to give those noise-canceling earbuds a try.
