Pan Zhanle sets a new 100m freestyle world record of 46.40 seconds, marking the first swimming world record of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

China's Pan was in command from his outstanding start, leading the field, and finished a full second ahead of Australia's Kyle Chalmers, who claimed the silver medal with a time of 47.48, followed by Romania's David Popovici, who took the bronze medal with a time of 47.49.

Pan's world record win lowered his previous record, which he set at the world championships in February 2024, by a full four tenths of a second, capping off an incredible night of swimming at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
